Service & price
The main service on the CAR-IX platform is the Peering VLAN (Unicast) to exchange IP traffic. The peering VLAN on the switching infrastructure facilitates our members regular internet traffic for both IPv4 and IPv6. The service is built for continuous availability, is actively monitored and was designed using the highest quality of service parameters in the industry.
Unicast VLAN service description
Features:
- Provisioning of an Ethernet port on the platform
- portspeeds available are: Fast Ethernet (FE, 100 Mbps) and Gigabit Ethernet (GE, 1 Gbps)
- ports are provided non blocking (i.e. continuous availability at full capacity)
- IPv4 and/or IPv6
- Live monitoring of traffic over CAR-IX
- Network Operations Centre (NOC) actively monitors the CAR-IX infrastructure 24x7.

The NOC operates during Amsterdam office hours (09:00 - 17:00 CET Monday to Friday). Outside of these hours there are engineers on duty that can be reached 24x7 in case of emergency only.
Technical service:
- One IPv4 address (1 per port) out of the prefix that is in use on the CAR-IX Infrastructure.
- One IPv6 address (1 per port) out of the prefix that is in use on the CAR-IX Infrastructure.
- PTR RR record in primary DNS for the in-addr.arpa mapping of the CAR-IX IPv4 prefix.
- PTR RR record(s) in primary DNS for the .ip6.arpa mapping of the CAR-IX IPv6 prefix.
Responsibilities:
- CAR-IX delivers a service from the port to the patch panel.
- CAR-IX is responsible for correct functioning of CAR-IX infrastructure
- The customer is responsible for peerings and correct functioning of its own network.
- The customer is responsible for the necessary cabling between the members router and the CAR-IX switch panel. You can contact the co-location provider for assistance.

CAR-IX policy on private peerings
CAR-IX poses no limits on peering arrangements between our members; nor do we interfere with private peering connections: in this respect we act purely as a L2 facilitator.
